Clayton Homes will permanently shut its plant in Stanly County, laying off 97 workers.
The company will complete the cuts by Jan. 15, according to a filing with the N.C. Department of Commerce.
Affected employees are not represented by a union. The local plant is along U.S. Hwy. 52 in New London.
Company officials were unavailable for comment.
Clayton Homes makes modular homes and mobile commercial and educational buildings. The company also develops residential subdivisions.
Warren Buffett’s Berkshire-Hathaway Inc. (NYSE:BRK-A) acquired Clayton Homes in 2003.
