CNBC: Canada's Salida Capital Revealed As Winning $1.68M Bidder for Warren Buffett Lunch

Published: Wednesday, 8 Jul 2009 | 12:08 PM ET

Lunch with Warren
Salida Capital, described as "one of Canada's leading alternative investment management firms," was the previously-anonymous winning bidder of this year's Warren Buffett charity lunch auction.

When the bidding ended on June 26, we knew the winner would be paying $1,680,300 but we didn't know the winner's name.

Today (Wednesday) the auction's beneficiary, San Francisco's Glide Foundation, filled in that gap.

It quotes Salida's President and CEO Courtenay Wolfe as saying, "This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to sit down with one of the world’s greatest investors. A man who can share invaluable perspectives and experience at a very unique time in history. It is something we plan to share with a handful of the people that have been the biggest supporters of our success over the years."

“Lunch with Warren Buffett is something we have always had on our ‘dream list’. This year marking the 10 year anniversary of our firm, coupled with a strong recovery after difficult events last year, we felt the timing was appropriate. We have been consistently supportive and involved in philanthropic causes over the years and the fact that this is going to help such a worthy foundation will make the experience that much more rewarding for us.”

It's sometimes a small world. I not only live in the same city as theirs, I also know the office building they're in.

They certainly seem to have gotten their money's worth in publicity from their bid.
